Floor-Barre® The technique was originally developed to refine classical ballet skills. However, over the course of time floor barre has proven to be effective in all forms of dance and even physically beneficial for non-dancers. It is a strength building system of movement based on ALIGNMENT. Without the strain of gravity(most exercises are done on the floor) dancers can work to strengthen weakened and injured areas.
Dancers that are new to the techniques of dance need to have an efficient understanding of their bodies, and seasoned dancers need to keep their bodies in tact in order to have a long and healthy performance career. Floor Barre enhances technical abilities, prevents injuries a well as rehabilitates, and ultimately prolongs a dancers' career. Non-dancers feel more energized in daily activities, and aches and pains from old injuries are alleviated because of this powerbuilding phenomenon.
Testimonials
- Tommy Tune, Broadway Showman
“In Floor-Barre® what the body absorbs on the floor remains in the dancer’s ‘muscular memory when the dancer stands. My dancing, singing and even my writing improved. The Technique ®! It’s a miracle! A wonderful Technique for young dancers.”
- Phylicia Rashad, TV and Stage Actress
“FloorBarre Technique is all about alignment, correct muscle usage and strengthening joints. When the body is in alignment everything a performer does is better. I have never been in a class before, ever, in which my mind and body become quiet. The quieter the body becomes the more correct the movement. Your entire feeling about yourself changes and your mind gets a little clearer. When you’re centered properly, everything becomes easy and correct. Anyone and everyone would benefit from Floor-Barre®. It is safe.”
- John Curry, Olympic Ice Skater
“Floor-Barre®, based on ballet, creates long exquisite lines. Every ice skater should take Floor-Barre®.”
- James May, Professor & Dance Historian
“Zena Rommett is one of the most important dance pedagogues of the 20th century.”
- Barbara Cutney, Ph.D.
“In Floor-Barre® the mind and body are working together.”
- Judith Jaminson, Dancer/Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company
“I try to start my day with a chapter of the Bible and Floor-Barre®. I come from a family of great faith. From the Bible I can give myself strength and comfort. And the Floor-Barre® is to get my body in order. As therapy, I took Floor-Barre® from a marvelous woman named Zena Rommett. I relearned how to work correctly, and then when I went to barre, everything was aligned and adjusted. And then I came to the center floor, and I had regained a verycorrect way of moving and Zena got me back on my feet again. Zena saved so many dancers from future injuries. Dancers should come to her sooner so that they can be working correctly all the time.”
- Patrick Swayze, Dancer/Actor
“Floor-Barre is fabulous! I hope that you have great success with it. Dancers should eat it up.”
